Kim, Sung-Kon
Korea, baritone. *1975
Sung-Kon was born in Seoul and studied vocal studies at the Kyung-Hee University. He then came to Berlin and was tutored by KS Heinz Reeh at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin until he graduated in 2007. During this period he took to the stage as Figaro, Marcello and Rodrigo de Posa. In 2006 the young baritone received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association. At a podium for young artists he held a solo concert with the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra. Sung-Kon was among the prize-winners at the international Schloss Rheinsberg chamber opera festival. He sang the role of Ford in Verdi's Falstaff during the performance in the 2007 festival summer. In April of this year he performed as Alsonso in the German premiere of Zděnek Fibich's The Storm at the Bielefeld Theater. The upcoming engagement at the Oper Frankfurt was awarded to Sung-Kon at the NEUE STIMMEN competition 2007.
