"The singers who perform for us have usually traveled far to get here," said Liz Mohn, vice-chair of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board and president of the NEUE STIMMEN competition. "They are hopeful and have great expectations for what will be a very special week in their lives. I'm always pleased to see young people devoting their lives to music, singing and opera. And I am proud to have the chance to support these young talents and to follow the paths they take over the course of many years." Her participation in today's event marks her first public appearance since the death of her husband, Reinhard Mohn, on October 3, 2009.
