"Neue Stimmen” June 26-29, 1997

1997 saw a total of 720 contestants entering "Neue Stimmen". The preliminary rounds were held in Berlin, Mexico City, Minsk, Munich, Naples, New York, Beijing, Sofia and Yokosuka (Japan). The decision to hold preliminary rounds in both Japan and China was the organizers' response to the enormous vocal potential as yet to be tapped throughout Asia. The event in Mexico City was "Neue Stimmen" debut in Central America.
