3rd Prize

Bernard Lombardo
France, tenor

What the program for "Neue Stimmen" 1989 had to say about him:
Bernard Lombardo completed his vocal training with C. Thiolas. He has won prizes in several international competitions, including the Enrico Caruso and Mario del Monaco Competitions, and has sung in opera houses throughout France. The 1989/90 season will see him commencing a two-year contract at Zurich Opera House.

What is said about him today:
Bernard Lombardo is now known as Luca Lombardo. Ever since his successful debut performance alongside Placido Domingo in a 1990 production of Verdi's "Otello" at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, he has maintained close ties to the French National Opera and been one of its regular guest performers. In 2003, he can be heard in its production of Verdi's "Sicilian Vespers" as well as in "Don Carlos" in Metz and "Werther" in Saint Etienne. Luca Lombardo has also given guest performances in Milan, Prague, Bonn, Vienna, Toronto, Munich, Leipzig and Tel Aviv.
