2nd Prize
Michael Volle
Germany, baritone
This is how he introduced himself at "Neue Stimmen" 1991:
Michael Volle studied singing in Trossingen and Stuttgart under Professors Josef Sinz and Georg Jelden. Now coached by Kammersänger Professor Josef Metternich, he is currently engaged at the National Theater Mannheim. One highlight of his career to date was a special prize at the National Singing Competition in Berlin.
What is said about him today:
After his period in Mannheim, Michael Volle spent the years 1994 to 1996 at the Opera House in Bonn and since then has had engagements at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf/Duisburg, the Cologne Opera House and, since 2001, the Zurich Opera House. He has also made guest appearances at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, La Scala Milan, in Japan and at the Salzburg and Bregenz Festivals. Performances on radio and television and countless CD recordings have also helped spread his fame. In 2003, he will be singing in productions of "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Ariadne auf Naxos" at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, in "The Merry Widow" and "Khovanshchina" in Zurich and in "The Cunning Little Vixen" at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
