3rd Prize

Sami Luttinen
Finland, bass, born 1970

What the program for "Neue Stimmen" 1995 had to say about him:
Sami Luttinen received his vocal training under Hannu Kerkola at the Turku Conservatory and under Sauli Tilikainen at the Sibelius Academy. He has also attended numerous master-classes, including some by François Le Roux and Peter Berne. After winning first prize in the Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition in 1994, the Dublin Opera decided to engage him for the part of Leporello in a 1995 production of "Don Giovanni".

What is said about him today:
Sami Luttinen has been a regular guest performer at the Savonlinna Opera Festival since 1993. After taking up a permanent engagement with the Stadttheater Kiel in 1995, the 1997/1998 season saw him switching to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf/Duisburg, which is where he still is today. He makes regular guest appearances in Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Austria and Switzerland and his repertoire now includes such parts as Leporello, Alidoro, Fasolt, Raimondo, Pimen and Colline. 2000 marked his debut at La Scala Milan in the part of Truffaldin in "Ariadne auf Naxos".
