1st Prize

Eteri Gvazava
Russia, soprano, born 1969

What the program for "Neue Stimmen" 1997 had to say about her:
Eteri Gvazava began her training at the Novosibirsk Conservatory and is now having lessons with Professor Maria Venuti at the Academy of Music in Karlsruhe. She has already won two first prizes in singing competitions in Russia.

What is said about her today:
Following her triumph in "Neue Stimmen" 1997, Eteri Gvazava was invited to sing the part of Fiordigili in a Giorgio Strehler production of Mozart's "Così fan tutte" at the Teatro Piccolo in Milan. From 1998 to 2000, she was a member of the opera ensemble in Bielefeld and in 2000 sang the part of Violetta alongside José Cura as Alfredo in "La Traviata à Paris", a television production conducted by Zubin Mehta and not only broadcast to an audience of millions, but recorded on CD as well. Since then, she has had countless engagements in Italy, including in Verona, Palermo, Turin, Venice and Cagliari. After moving to Berlin and taking a break from singing in order to have a baby, Eteri Gvazava plans to resume her operatic career in March 2003.
